Leith-Buchanan, Sir Alexander

Sir Alexander Wellesley George Thomas Leith-Buchanan (1866-1925)

Sir George Leith-Buchanan, Bart. of Ross Priory, Balloch, Co. Dumbarton, was the eldest son of Sir Alexander William Leith, 3rd Bart. Sir Alexander married in 1832 Jemima (dec. 1877), second daughter of Hector MacDonald Buchanan of Ross, Co. Dumbarton, and Jean Buchanan, daughter of Robert Buchanan of Ross and Drummakill.

Robert, who was seventh of Drummakill, and sixth of Ross, was the third son of Archibald Buchanan of Drummakill and Jean Buchanan, heiress of Ross. He succeeded to Drummakill upon the death of his uncle Archibald Buchanan, who died unnmarried in 1768.

Sir George Leith-Buchanan married twice and, with his second wife, Eliza Caroline Tod, had (1) Alexander Wellesley George Thomas (b. 1866), (2) George Hector (b. 1871), (3) James McDonald (b. 1872), and six daughters.

After the death of his mother, Lady Leith, Sir George assumed the name of Buchanan.

The family are representers of Drummakill.

The title passed Sir Charles Leith-Buchanan, b. Inverness, Scotland. He emigrated to become a citizen of America.
