Buchanan-Dunlop, Henry Donald – Cadet of Drumhead

Lt Col Henry Donald Buchanan-Dunlop DSO (1845-1941)

The family of Buchanan-Dunlop is descended from Buchanan of Drumhead who in turn is descended through Drummakill.

The first of the family of Buchanan-Dunlop was Robert Buchanan-Dunlop who succeeded to Drumhead upon the death of his cousin Archibald Shannon-Buchanan.

The Arms: Quarterly, first and fourth, Argent, a double headed eagle displayed Gules in the dexter chief point a mullet Azure, a bordure of the second; second, Or, a lion rampant Sable holding in his sinister paw a bow and in his dexter an arrow all Proper within a double tressure flory counterflory of the second; third grand quarter counter quartered, first and fourth, quarterly. first and fourth, gyronny of eight Or and Sable each gyron charged with a trefoil slipped all countercharged; second and third, Argent, a galley Sable, sails furled, in the centre of the quarters a crescent Gules, for difference; second and third, Gules, on a bend Argent, three crescents Azure, in the sinister chief a spur revel of the second, in the centre of the grandquarters a martlet Sable for difference.

The Crest: A rose Gules barded seeded and slipped Vert.

The Motto: ‘E Spinis’ ( From among the thorns ).
