These arms are recorded in “Armorial Families” in the name of William Frederick Buchanan, son of William Frederick Buchanan Esq., Fellow of the R. Colonial Inst., who was born 1824. He married 1857 Eliza Connell, second daughter of Assistant Commissioner Gen. Connell. The bearer of the arms appears to have resided at Clar Innis, Sydney, N.S.W., Australia.

The Arms: Erminois, a lion rampant Sable charged on the shoulder with a mullet of eight points Or, and in chief two horse‘s heads couped of the second, all within a bordure invected Gules.

The Crest: In front of dexter hand couped at the wrist Proper, holding an escutcheon Sable, charged with a rose Argent, barbed and seeded of the first, two branches of laurel slipped and fructed in saltire of the last.

The Motto: ‘Clarior Hinc Honos’ ( Hence the Brighter Honour ).
