Buchanan of Ardenconnel

Andrew Buchanan of Ardenconnel (1745-1835)

Andrew Buchanan of Ardenconnel in the Parish of Dumbarton was the second son of Archibald Buchanan of Silverbank who was a grandson of Andrew Buchanan of Gartachairn.

The family of Gartachairn are descended from Walter Buchanan of Glenny and are cadets of Leny.

The ARMS: Or, a lion rampant Sable, between two otter’s heads erased in chief Proper and a cinquefoil in base of the second, all within a double tressure flory counterflory of the Last.

The Crest: An armed dexter hand holding a cap of dignity Purpure facing Ermine.

The Motto: ‘Nunquam Victus’ ( Never conquered ).

The arms are recorded in Lyon Register Volume 1, Page 558, 27 September 1791.
