The first of the Drumpellier family appears to have been Andrew Buchanan, second son of George Buchanan, second son of Andrew Buchanan of Gartacharne. The bearer of the arms appears to be James Buchanan eldest son of Andrew Buchanan of Drumpelier. He married in 1723 Marion Montgomerie of Boutrehill, and secondly he married Elizabeth Binning. By his first wife he had issue 1. James, 2. George and five daughters.
James married Margaret Hamilton, and by her had one son who died unmarried, and several daughters. It is of interest perhaps to note that his younger brother George of Mount Vernon born 1728 married in 1750 Lillias Dunlop and he died in 1762 having had issue. His eldest son Andrew was born in 1755 and died in 1795 without issue.
The estate passed to his brother David who took the additional name of Carrick having been left property by Robert Carrick banker of Glasgow. From this point, we see the beginning of the Carrick-Buchanan family.
